Basic First Aid Guide1. Assess the Situation- Ensure the scene is safe before approaching the victim.
- Check for responsiveness by tapping the person and asking, "Are you okay?"
- If unresponsive, call emergency services (911 or local emergency number) immediately.
2. CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) – For Unconscious Person Not Breathing- Call for help (or ask someone to do so).
- Check breathing: If not breathing or gasping, start CPR.
- Chest compressions:
- Place hands in the center of the chest.
- Push hard and fast (100-120 compressions per minute).
- Use 30 compressions followed by 2 rescue breaths (if trained).
- Continue until help arrives or the person recovers.
3. Choking – Heimlich Maneuver- If the person can cough or talk, encourage them to keep coughing.
- If they cannot breathe, cough, or speak:
- Stand behind the person and wrap arms around their waist.
- Make a fist and place it just above their belly button.
- Perform quick inward and upward thrusts until the object is expelled.
- If unconscious, start CPR and call for help.
4. Bleeding Control- Apply direct pressure with a clean cloth or bandage.
- If bleeding doesn't stop, add more layers (do not remove soaked bandages).
- If severe, elevate the wound and seek medical attention.
- If an artery is severed, apply a tourniquet (as a last resort).
5. Burns- Minor burns:
- Cool with running cold water for at least 10 minutes.
- Apply aloe vera or burn ointment, not butter or ice.
- Severe burns (blistering or charred skin):
- Do not remove clothing stuck to the burn.
- Cover with a clean, loose, non-stick dressing.
- Seek medical help immediately.
6. Fractures & Sprains- Fracture (broken bone):
- Keep the limb immobilized (use a splint if possible).
- Apply an ice pack to reduce swelling.
- Seek medical help.
- Sprain:
- Follow R.I.C.E. (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation).
7. Shock- Symptoms: Cold skin, fast pulse, dizziness, confusion.
- Lay the person down, elevate legs, and keep warm.
- Do not give food or drink.
- Seek emergency help.
8. Poisoning- Call Poison Control (or emergency services) immediately.
- Do not induce vomiting unless instructed by professionals.
- If inhaled poison: Move to fresh air immediately.
- If skin contact: Wash with plenty of water.

In an emergency, first make sure the area is safe, then call for emergency services, and offer care according to your training.
