What's great to do at the Grand Canyon for 1 day?

You can take a helicopter tour over the Grand Canyon, you can see the most that way. There is also a shuttle that goes from the village all along the South Rim on Hermit Rd. which is nice. You can try and take a short hike along Bright Angel Trail or even the Rim Trail, which are right near the town.

The South Rim is PACKED in the summer, so you should book now if you want a hotel in Grand Canyon Village. I recommend Bright Angel Lodge or El Tovar. However, if you want to avoid the crowds, stay in Tusayan (which still will be slightly busy) or even Williams or Flagstaff. You can also see Wupatki Indian ruins on the way down to Flagstaff from the canyon on US-89 (if you exit the canyon to the east, then south towards Flagstaff).
