The Evolution of Computer Rentals
« on: September 24, 2009, 03:56:34 AM »
Renting electronic equipment for trade shows, training programs, meetings and presentations, and similar such purposes, has grown in popularity and continues to do so. Companies have realised the need to provide such a service, quite simply because it is far more economical and logical to rent such equipment for projects, than to purchase equipment. Moreover, it makes sense when you need the equipment for a one-off presentation, trade show, meeting etc.  Computer rentals, video wall rentals and now even tablet pc rentals all help make presentations of any kind far more convenient and professional.

The employment of electronics was definitely not as popular, or even necessary, fifteen years ago as it is today. Considering how expensive it is to purchase computers, rentals have grown in popularity. Recognising the need and logic behind this people have set up companies for the sole purpose of offering computer rental, tablet pc rental, video wall rental and any equipment that goes along with it. These computer rental companies have equipment at their disposal in large volumes that can be sent to venues within a very reasonable period of time, sometimes even immediately. Some companies also offer to have the equipment set-up at your venue, especially when the installation is complicated, like for video wall rentals.

A comparatively newer introduction to the world of electronics is the tablet pc. It is quite simply a computer with a touch screen. The touch screen pc comes with a screen that can rotate 180 degrees, so it can lie flat and give you a perfectly horizontal surface to work with. Tablet pc rentals are very useful for presentations and even more so for training programs and hence, have become popular as rental equipment.

Another popular concept, which has gained momentum more for tradeshows and presentations that warrant large audiences, is the video wall. A video wall consists of putting together multiple computer screens to offer you a large screen, hence the name. Video wall rentals are very useful for trade shows and promotions that cater to large audiences and gatherings.

Companies usually have a system in place for computer rentals. The factors that determine the price they charge are as follows:

1) Time and Availability
It depends on how long you want to rent the computer equipment for and the availability of the product. Computer rentals for a month would cost you less per day than computer rentals for just one day. Freely available equipment will obviously be less expensive to rent than equipment that is not so available.

2) Location
Rentals for business centres and convention centres will generally be more costly than rentals to business addresses. This is because business addresses have easier access to deliver equipment and installation is less complicated than convention centres.

3) Specification
Computer rentals for computers with more advanced specifications will be more expensive. For example, computers that are faster with advanced graphics and higher end operating systems cost more to rent.

4) Computer rental equipment and volume
Video wall rentals will probably be more expensive purely because they require more time and effort to install. Renting computers for large training rooms, which require many computers, will be expensive because the number of computers required is that much more.
