Method One: Using a Standard BIOS Backdoor Passwords

Some BIOS manufacturers have provided backdoor passwords for their own technicians to use so they can access the BIOS when the hardware is being serviced. Here are some of the ones that have been reported, these passwords are case sensitive, so you may wish to try a variety of combinations.

WARNING: Some BIOS configurations will lock you out of the system completely if you type in an incorrect password more than 3 times. Read your manufacturers documentation for the BIOS setting before you begin typing in passwords.

AMI Backdoor BIOS Passwords:

AMI, AMI?SW, AMI_SW, BIOS, CONDO, HEWITT RAND, LKWPETER, PASSWORD

Phoenix BIOS Backdoor Passwords:
phoenix, PHOENIX, CMOS, BIOS

Other BIOS Passwords by Manufacturer: (manufacturer name -- password)

Biostar -- Biostar
Compaq -- Compaq
Dell -- Dell
Enox -- xo11nE
Epox -- central

Method Two: Using Hardware

If the standard backdoor passwords didn't work, you’d better try to flash the BIOS via hardware.

Removing the CMOS Battery
The simplest way to remove a BIOS password is to simply remove the CMOS battery. A computer will remember its settings and keep the time even when it is turned off and unplugged because these parts are powered by small battery inside the computer called a CMOS battery. If we remove this battery for 5-10 minutes, the CMOS will reset itself and forget alot of its settings, including the BIOS password.

Method Three: Using Software
This works only if you have access to your PC and can run software (meaning no Administrator password is set).

Part Two: Reset Windows Login Password

Method One: Safe mode

Restart your computer, hold down F8 once you enter the Windows Boot Menu choose Safe Mode with Command Prompt, and now type in the following:

net user abc /add
net localgroup Administrators abc /add

The first command adds a new user called “abc”, and the second command adds that user to the Administrators group, restart your computer, login windows with new “abc” and reset the forgetten account password.

Method Two: Free software -- Ophcrack

The Ophcrack is a free Windows password cracker based on rainbow tables. It is a very efficient implementation of rainbow tables done by the inventors of the method. It comes with a Graphical User Interface and runs on multiple platforms.

Method Three: Windows Password Reset
