Botox treatments were first approved in 1990. They are given by way of injection to smooth out the wrinkles of the forehead, neck and face which may appear as you age. Botox is made up of a protein substance produced by the bacterium Clostridium Botulinum, the same toxin that causes a life-threatening type of food poisoning called botulism. It is injected in targeted areas in order to relax the muscle and decrease its activity.
