The Elk Grove Unified School District is offering free citizenship classes for permanent residents who plan to apply for U.S. citizenship within the next six months.Beginning and intermediate classes will teach U.S. history and government, improve English skills and cover how to prepare for the oral interview during 54 hours of coursework.

California Rural Legal Assistance will help students fill our their naturalization N 400 application.The classes are paid for through a $160,000 grant from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, according to district officials.For more information, call (916) 686-7717 or go to www.egace-egusd-ca.schoolloop.com.
