The USCIS is required by law to conduct fee reviews every two years. After such reviews, the
USCIS raises filing fees if it is determined that budget levels necessary to administer the nation’s immigration laws, process immigration benefit requests and provide the infrastructure needed to support those activities require it.

USCIS filing fee increase.
Critics point out that the frequent
USCIS fee increases have not been accompanied by any improvement in customer service on the part of USCIS and that USCIS has taken no meaningful measures to streamline its budget.
