Professional Document Translation - An In-Depth Review
« on: January 03, 2011, 04:11:05 PM »

Translation is an imperfect art. The fundamental compatibility of languages is such that there is no possible way to create a translation of a document from one language to another. The reason for this is simple: each language was constructed independently of every other one and thus will often times have more than one meaning for an individual word or have multiple words expressing what is in another language, a single concept.

This makes translation a difficult process. It is a balance between realism and efficiency of conveying meaning and maintaining accuracy of the original document's text. With global interaction becoming more of a necessity for the modern era, however, professional document translation is a requisite job for any country or business to stay on top of news and information.

Translation is useful in many areas, especially when foreigners become involved or for when they apply for citizenship. Other uses for translations include magazines, pharmaceutical materials, safety notices, diplomas, transcripts, birth certificates, divorce decrees, licenses, financial information, public notices, advertisements, books, website text, legal filings, educational materials, technical manuals, judicial rulings, government documents, contracts and more.

While conducting business with a foreign company or while conducting political negotiations or diplomatic ones, it is also essential to have a translator. This is not simply because it may be a need (in case the participants are uneducated in one another's language) but because if emotions are becoming strained and insults thrown, it can be excused as a mere translation error, allowing everyone to continue pursuing their objectives and become satisfied with any deals resulting from the meeting.

There are many professional document translation services out there, especially if you look online. The quantity of services makes them readily available but taking into consideration the aforementioned truth of translation, it becomes necessary to determine the quality of translation of the text which is being reviewed. This makes free programs found online subject to a closer examination and likely a critical eye. It is because of this that many people prefer to use professional document translation, despite the perhaps better prices of a less accredited service.

Professional document translation exercises two extremes in the process, being metaphrase and paraphrase. Derived from the Greek, this distinction is essentially that of an exact, precise translation and the use of equivalent words or phrases to convey the meaning of the source text. Neither of these can be perfect in any one translation, and thus they are mere ideologies for a translator to strive for.

The key principle to keep in mind when looking for a translator or of translating is that accuracy is crucial. It is not a creative writing assignment, and though the contrast of languages dictates compromise of the language to be used, there should be as few variations made as possible.

Another thing that translators need to take into account when dealing with professional documents is the target those documents address. For highly technical (legal, medical) documents, there will be templates and specific technical language involved that you need to be savvy in, and a knowledge of the language just won't cut it. You need professional translators that are experts in the field the documents deal with as well as the language. Likewise, when translating corporate documents or adds, you need to know the target culture, since sometimes the best way to convey the same meaning in a foreign country will be just saying something completely different than what you said in your own language. This is way it is important that you choose an agency that has translators who are native to your target audience, and don't simply speak the language.
For translation into the Spanish language, you can find great New York Translation Services and Atlanta Translation Services that employ expert professionals from all around the world.
