Sugar Land Texas is located 20 miles southwest of Houston, Texas in Fort Bend County. This area is adjacent to Stafford Texas to the East and Richmond Texas to the West. Sugar Land was originally founded as a sugar plantation in the early 1800's and is home to the headquarters of Imperial Sugar. The city was ranked third in the 2006 CNN/Money Magazine; coming in 3rd out of the hundred best places to live in the United States and in another ranking Sugar Land placed fifth on the safest places to call home. The median family income totaled an average of $101,168 while the crime risk was low compared to other ranked cities. The area is mainly white collar, and many of the residents are employed in Houston's energy industry.
